East of Scotland Water (now Scottish Water) Service Reservoirs: Operating & Maintenance (O&M) Manuals.

In July 1999 uim was awarded a contract to produce Operating & Maintenance (O&M) Manuals for 260 Service Reservoirs for the former East of Scotland Water. The manuals were to be prepared in accordance with the client's document specification and in addition to providing traditional hard copy, electronic versions had to be produced as PDF's for viewing on the ESW Intranet.

A Project Plan and a Quality Plan were created by UIM, at the client's request, to facilitate the effective management of the project and early meetings were held to organise the logistical elements of obtaining source information, arranging site visits, the submission and vetting of draft material and other issues. UIM provided a team of documentation specialists and technical authors, based in their Edinburgh office, to carry out the work. Each site was visited and extensively photographed, operators were interviewed and procedures documented. In this way site-specific information was obtained and generated including site and building layouts and process flow diagrams. Generic information was obtained from a number of sources, assessed and standardised. Part of the requirement was to harmonise procedures that had been used by each of the five regions that made up East of Scotland Water.

The project took just over a year to complete providing the client with a description and formally documented version of the procedures used at each Service Reservoir. UIM have subsequently updated many of the manuals to reflect changes at the sites, e.g. the installation of a bypass or security improvements.
